Rutherglen Estates
Rutherglen Estates ambition is to redefine the traditions of one of the world’s best fortified wine regions by producing not only these traditional styles, but importantly a range of premium table wines based on traditional, alternative and Mediterranean varietals.
In the 1990’s, demand for Australian table wine increased and an extensive search by a group of wine professionals for an area suitable for producing innovative regional wines, led to Rutherglen, and in 1996, Rutherglen Estates was born. The first vines were planted in 1997 and the state of the art winery was completed in 2001, situated approximately 8kms from the township of Rutherglen. Rutherglen Estates bears the name of one of the oldest and most recognized wine regions in Australia and their mission is to produce the best and regionally typical premium wines from varieties most suited to the climate and conditions of the Rutherglen region. As the largest grower within the region with 358 hectares of vines planted on five estate sites, only the best fruit from these vineyards is selected for Rutherglen Estates wines.
The wines of Rutherglen Estates are produced entirely from fruit grown on their own Rutherglen vineyards. Working closely together, the professional winemaking and viticulture teams use a combination of traditional and modern, cutting edge methods to deliver an innovative range of top quality premium wines, each with a personality that reflects the ground from which it has come. Varieties grown at Rutherglen Estates include Viognier, Savagnin, Fiano, Shiraz, Durif, Mourvedre, Zinfandel and of course Muscat.
